Le Livre d'Argent

@davidrevoy the South Pole, no? otherwise how do the penguins get there?

@irina But this rule works on earth only, no? :) On Hereva, the world of Pepper&Carrot, they probably exist on the north-pole.

(note: Thank you! I had no idea about no pingouin on the north-pole 😅 🐧 🐧🐧🐧)

@davidrevoy 🧊 🧊 🧊

@davidrevoy This is why polar bears don't eat penguins. (All the polar bears are on the North Pole)

📝 Edit: "North Pole" → "South Pole".

Reason: As pointed on the comments (thank you), no penguins in the north. TIL! (src: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penguin#/media/File:Penguin_range.png )

@davidrevoy
you confused north- and southpole

northpole portal would spawn angry ice bears :-D

@Doomed_Daniel Fixed! Thanks

@davidrevoy oh, thought it was a nice detail of world building.
Now I'm a tiny little disappointed.

@davidrevoy
Yeah, but maybe these stories don't take place on our planet 🫠

@Mourioche Totally, true, they are on my world, "Hereva". But I just don't want readers to focus on this "no penguin in north pole" fact if they know it, it can just break the immersion, and so, the little joke for them. 🙂

@davidrevoy Yeah, it's treacherous because "penguin" in English and "pingouin" in French don't refer to the same animal.

@Whidou Oh... This too. It's definitely a day of edit and false cognate for me 😆

@davidrevoy Too bad it doesn't work like the portals from the eponymous game, the solution would be pretty easy.

@davidrevoy Note that, if penguins are from the southern hemisphere, a species called “great auk”, closely looking to them but more related to razorbills, lived around the north pole until the mid-19th centuries.

In French, they were called “grand pingouin” (razorbills being called “pingouin”), and that's probably part of the reasons why french people are often confused about how to call penguins.

@davidrevoy Not to burst the bubble, but Antartica is in a state of 24/7 darkness, atm. There should be no light coming through the portal. 🫣

@QCCEChris 😅 Writing fiction is hard...

(thank you for the info! TIL)

@davidrevoy Because Santa ate them all

@porkcow true story (partially). The penguin we had in the north, the great auk was extincted by humans https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_auk

@davidrevoy
Um, where can I find that spell... for science!
Promise not to unhouse any penguins.

@mcpinson A modern version of that grimoire is likely to be held by Aperture Science. ☺️

@davidrevoy @Whidou
You made me remember this...

And now i can't stop hearing it in my head 😆

@davidrevoy @martouf je plussoie, mon clown intérieur est ravi UwU 🤡
Médaille ! 🥇

@davidrevoy So Pepper is why Antarctica is warming up!?

@arfisk 🤣

@davidrevoy I also read through the thread after commenting, and noted from you this was a fantasy world, not earth. So your light coming through the portal is valid.

@QCCEChris I believe @davidrevoy's depiction is accurate even in our world, as the ambient light comes not from the sky, but rather from Linux's broken graphics drivers keeping the penguins' monitors backlights on blobmiou
