A question I saw today: "Why does society place income caps on disabled people but not on billionaires?"
The answer is as simple as it is unsettling: our society still, despite all efforts to the contrary, equates wealth with virtue. The narrative of prosperity being the result of hard work and good character (which, in an ideal world, would in fact be true!) is extremely toxic in a system where it is a lie -- as it is under capitalism.
@mos_8502 @mmu_man I disagree with your ideal world: prosperity should be unconditional, and work should be fairly shared without such fables to motivate people to compete.
On the other hand, this narrative is indeed even more extremely toxic when it's an obvious lie, so I fully endorse your analysis of the actual world.
